Sex in Ireland has always seemed to be something you shouldn’t talk about. The stereotypical image of Roman Catholics issuing threats against those who would fornicate for anything other than pro-creation is long since passed. Whilst the religious communities are still large and powerful, Ireland’s general attitude to sex has changed radically in the past decade. Casual sex is no longer seen as ‘anathema’ and the younger generation is helping to do away with outdated religious opinions on the matter. So what is the situation today?

A survey conducted by an Irish dating company revealed that only 27% of women admitted to be sleeping with more than one person at any time. The casual dating model which (as we know!) is increasingly popular in the UK, the USA and elsewhere is perhaps not as popular in the Republic. Growing numbers of users on our site would seem to counter that a little however.

The survey also revealed that women in Ireland are more likely to have an orgasm then women in the UK are. Either that’s a damning indictment on the sexual prowess of English men, or women in Ireland are just more at ease with their body types and shapes.

By popular mandate, gay marriage was voted to be legalised in Ireland late last month. This shows a huge milestone in Ireland’s journey from becoming a Roman Catholic dominated state to a more liberal and accepting country. This trend follows a shift from the traditional narrow views of sex and marriage towards a more open and accepting society.
