Despite us banging on and on about casual sex and how great it is, we do realise that it’s not for everyone. We also realise that if you’ve never tried it before it’s important to know whether or not it’s the right move for you. The most common form of casual hook up is the ‘One Night Stand’. As such we’re going to approach this topic from that angle. We’ll assume that you’ve never met the person you’re considering sleeping with before. So without further ado let’s crack on!
What you need to consider before having casual sex for the first time:
1. Do I have protection?
In the USA people are fond of saying “A condom carries the same principle as a gun: I’d rather have one and not need it then not have one and need it”. Whilst I disagree with the USA’s fondness for guns, I do agree with what they say about condoms. If you’re about to hook up with a random one nighter, make sure you’re fully prepped.
2. Am I sober?
Alcohol is the number 1 cause for hook ups worldwide. It makes us bolder then we normally would be. It also makes us stupider then we normally would be. Make sure you’re not shit faced before having sex with a new fuck buddy.
3. Am I a virgin?
Yes believe it or not, loads of people pop their cherry on a one night stand. It’s far more common then the general public realise and far more likely to happen when coupled with alcohol. Casual sex is a great way to gain experience, but when it’s your first experience it can bring a lot of baggage with it! Be careful.
4. Am I comfortable talking about condoms?
If you’re not able to say to your fuck buddy “Put a condom on” then you shouldn’t be having casual sex.
5. Am I being honest with myself?
It’s important to think of the reasons as to why you’re considering a one night stand. Are you lonely, or are you just horny? It’s very important that you know the difference between a relationship and a good fuck with someone you don’t know that well.
6. Is this about an ex?
If you’re on a rebound then casual sex might not be the best way to get over that big love. If you’re sad then you’re not going to enjoy the sex.
7. Are you sober?
Fact: if you think you’d only shag someone when you’re drunk then you wouldn’t want to shag them when you’re sober.
8. Does anyone know where I am?
Yes the whole point of an illicit hook up is to maintain a level of privacy. However if you’re sleeping with someone for the first time then it’s sensible to let someone know you’re rough whereabouts and what time you’ll be back. You know, just in case you’re one-nighter is a total douche.
