The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the whole globe with no county left untouched and unaffected. Different countries have had different approaches with very different results. Sweeden decided to ignore it and let it run riot as the United Kingdom in an attempt to create “herd immunity” which did not seem to work that well, China just leant the other way entirely and imposed strict restrictions on people which whilst they worked may not have been something that we would have accepted over here. Australia have taken a more middle ground approach and this has affected a lot of business as reduced trade has dropped peoples income and left them struggling. There are many industries that are easy to think of and have established groups or unions that were able to petition the government for help. The industry that did not have anything in place was the sex industry.
If there are restrictions on movement and interaction, naturally one of the areas that was hit were sex workers. I imagine that trying to “sell your wares” is particularly difficult in these times. This year here in Australia, in direct response to the reduced work that has been seen the Scarlet Alliance formed a working group that called themselves the “National Cabinet of Whores” which have produced advice for sex workers, guidelines on when and how to work safely, and even financial support for people who are struggling. They have a really good set of what they are calling ‘harm reduction advice’ that really does help people to carry on whilst keeping things safe.
Why is it important? Sex is a fundamental need and desire that is hard coded into all of us. It is not a choice; it is written into out DNA on a biological level and we have very little input into it. This means that we all need sex and going without for an extended period of time can hit our health, happiness and productivity. It can really make us miserable.
One of the safest ways of ensuring that you have regular sex without a problem is to get a fuck buddy.
