Online dating just like every other form of dating has its ups and downs. One week you might go on several dates that just don’t work out. The next you might go out on several dates that blow your mind! It is pretty normal to have both good and bad runs. So what are the online dating cons?
The Not-so-Good
1. Reality Distance.
Chatting to someone online just isn’t the same as talking to someone in person. Make sure you get out often and continue your relationships with friends and family to avoid becoming a laptop hermit.
2. This isn’t regular dating.
You can’t treat it as such. Do not get overly invested in one person and don’t expect instant responses. It doesn’t work that way.
3. What you see is not always what you get.
No dating site likes to admit this, but there are unfortunately still many trolls and other nasty characters that put up fake profiles in the hope of luring decent people into an encounter or extracting money from them. Be on your guard and challenge when something doesn’t seem right. Report suspicious profiles to our site administrators immediately.
4. Adverts.
You don’t usually get a billboard in your face when chatting to someone you like the look of in a bar. Online this is an unfortunate reality…although you’ll notice that our site has very little to get in the way of our profile views as we know how irritating adverts can be. Bit of shameless self promotion there, but you can’t blame us!
So there are the disadvantages. What about the advantages?
The Good
1. Match Increase.
You have a higher chance of meeting someone you get on with by using an online dating site then by meeting random people in a bar or at a party.
2. Better chance of a date.
Because you’ve spent the time separating the winners from the losers online, you have a better chance of getting a date the first time instead of asking 50 women before you get one hit.
3. Less chance of being humiliated.
Odds are you’ll be less likely to be placed in an embarrassing situation with online dating. Because you aren’t asking someone out in front of other people, there is less chance your mates will be sniggering behind you if you get knocked back.
4. Convenient.
Rather then spending ages getting ready for a night out and looking your best, you can save all of that for the actual date you’ve organised online in your sweats.
Both sides have their positives and negatives. Try both and decide for yourself which is the best for you. Don’t be surprised if you start liking online dating more then you thought you would.
