How do you know a good dating site from a bad one?

Someone asked me this question a few weeks ago having signed up to several dating sites. My honest answer was “…no one’s asked me that before! Let me have a think and get back to you.” It’s strange, but no one had asked me that question before! I just assumed that all dating sites were fair game and that one was pretty much like another.

Yet when I did think about it, I realised there are some subtle yet distinct differences between the bad dating sites and the good ones. My conclusions are below. Let me know if you agree or disagree by emailing us.

Bad Dating Sites – What to look out for
1. Too much advertising
A lot of the free dating sites rely heavily on sponsorship and advertising to supplement their lack of paid users. As a result the moment you click onto to one of these sites you are immediately bombarded with pop ups and banner ads. Good luck finding someone’s profile

2. A lot of dead or fake profiles
These are easy to spot. They usually are very bare on information and either only have 1 picture or no pictures at all. You can usually find them more on…

3. It’s free?
Don’t get me wrong, I know there are some decent free dating sites out there…but because they’re free the chances are the people using them aren’t as invested in finding sex, love or a relationship compared to the person who’s spent money on a dating site. The principle of online dating remains the same as offline dating; if someone isn’t prepared to make the effort at dating, then they’re probably a waste of time.

4. Bad loading speeds
You’ve just loaded a profile and want to send someone a message…yet you keep getting slow loading times or worse ‘error’ messages apologising for the delay. Bad loading speed means bad investment in the site. Don’t bother.

Good Dating Sites – What to look out for
1. Clean homepage
A homepage or landing page free of clutter which tells you what the site does is a clear indicator of quality.

2. Adverts don’t intrude on your experience
Having adverts is fine, but the good dating sites make sure they don’t intrude and keep your experience as clean as possible

3. You pay
If you have to pay to use the site, the chances are the site has taken the time to invest properly in the user experience. This means better interaction with other members and a user friendly system (hopefully)

4. People are more likely to be genuine
Someone who’s paid to use a dating site is more likely to be serious about finding someone. F-Buddy members aren’t just here to dick around; they have paid and are here to find someone to fuck.

Online dating has its good and bad points just like offline dating. Keep a look out for yourself and feel free to refer to this post if needs be.
